Long Branch 1/2 Marathon (12-week Training Program)

"Before meeting Coach Brian, I couldn't even finish a 5K & over the span of 4-months, finished my first 1/2 marathon. I could not have imagined doing so without his assistance!!"
-Angela (12-week Training Program Participant)

Have you always wanted to run a 1/2 marathon?

Runner's High triathlon & running coach, Brian Shea, will be kicking off our 12-week program on February 11. We will lead you from 5K to your first 1/2 marathon on May 5, in the beautiful NJ shore town of Long Branch...

The program is led by Coach Brian Shea, who brings with him over 20-years of experience as an athlete, coach & consultant. As an athlete, he has raced every distance from 5K to Ironman, including a 2:49 personal best at the NYC Marathon.

As a coach & consultant, Coach Brian has worked closely professionals & amateurs alike to help meet their goals. Among those include world-class athetes such as:
  • Leanda Cave (Ironman Hawaii & 70.3 World Champion, Ironman Arizona Champion; ITU World Champion)
  • Jordan Rapp (Ironman Texas, Ironman Canada, Ironman Arizona & Ironman US Champion & ITU Long Course World Champion)
  • Julie Dibens (Ironman 70.3 World Champion; Ironman Hawaii 3rd Place; 2x Olympian & 2x XTerra World Champion)
  • Terenzo Bozzone (Ironman 70.3 World Champion; RI 70.3 Champion; Eagleman 70.3 Champion; etc etc etc)
  • Simon Lessing (5x World Champion & Ironman Lake Placid Course Record Holder)
    ....to name but a few!

The Long Branch 1/2 Marathon Training Program is designed for theBeginner & Intermediate runner, who is looking to train in a group environment to prep for their first 1/2 marathon or looking to improve their time. Included in this program:
  • Initial one-on-one evaluation with Coach Brian Shea to determine goals, training program, limitations, etc...
  • Customized 12-week training program, built around your schedule & ability.
  • Weekly coached group training sessions.
  • On race weekend, Coach Brian will be joining you to go through the logistics of packet pick-up, pre-race meals/hydration & take all the guess work out of your first 1/2 marathon experience!

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

I've never run anything close to 13-miles, how much do I need to be doing to start on February 11?
  • Ideally you want to be comfortable with a long run of 4-5 miles & at least 2-3 additional runs per week, in the 2-3 mile range.

If I'm not ready to commit to the program on February 11, can I start at a later date?
  • The program is designed to progress you from February 11 to race day, so it's most beneficial to begin at the start of the 12-week program. With that, you can begin whenever you feel comfortable & the pricing schedule will be pro-rated accordingly. Please e-mail Coach Brian if you would like to start later & arrangements can be made (Brian@PersonalBestNutrition.com).

Where will my schedule be posted each week?
  • After the initial evaluation, you will be given a personal username & password on Coach Brian's Training Page, which will allow you to see all the details of your training as well as give you access to log all your workout data.

What day(s) of the week & where will the group trainings be held?
  • We will be conducting the weekly training sessions on Thursday evenings, starting between 6-6:30pm in the Monmouth County area. Workout locations include Freehold, Colts Neck & the race venue in Long Branch. As race day approaches & Spring arrives, we will be better able to establish consistency with location.

If I have questions about the program, is Coach Brian available?
  • Coach Brian is available to answer any questions you have, either via phone or e-mail. In addition, you'll have access to a private Facebook Group which will allow you interaction with Coach Brian as well as the other participants in the Long Branch Training Group.

I don't live in the NJ Shore area, is this still something I could participate and benefit from?
  • ABSOLUTELY!! The vast majority of the athletes Coach Brian works with are NOT located in the area of the Jersey Shore, so location is somewhat irrelevant as you can still participate in all the other aspects of the training program. If/when it's convenient for you, you can then also join in on the group training sessions.

Between kids, work, etc... I have a super busy schedule. How many days per week do I need to commit to training to be able to finish the 1/2 marathon?
  • As a parent & business owner himself, Coach Brian understands the complexities of fitting in training around the rigors of everyday life. We are recommending that athletes participating in the program allocate 3-4 days per week, with (3) runs in the 30-60 minute range + a long run which will start at 5-miles and peak in the 10-14 mile range (depending on ability).

Where do I register for the 1/2 Marathon?
  • It is your responsibility to register for the event as it WILL SELL OUT!! You can do so HERE.

    Are there any host hotels?
  • There are a number of hotels within a short distance to the start line, posted HERE.

    Additional questions?
  • Please feel free to e-mail Coach Brian with any additional questions you may have: Brian@PersonalBestNutrition.com
