Do you have your 1st triathlon & have never been in open water or are you new to open water swimming & looking for ways to get to T1 a little faster? This is a GREAT opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of open water swimming, in a fun & safe environment.

Upcoming sessions will be held in the ocean in Long Branch, at the following locations:

July 26 & 29:
We will meet on the beach at MADISON AVENUE. Parking is available on Madison Avenue as well as on the adjoining streets (Please check meter rules).

Madison Avenue is located on the NORTH side of the Ocean Place Resort.

WHAT: Get your feet wet & take some of the fear out of the open water. This session is designed for the BEGINNER swimmer or triathlete who has never attempted or is new to open water swimming. The focus of this session is to remove the fear of open water swimming and get you more comfortable being in open water. This session will include beach instruction as well as a hands-on portion in the water.

All sessions will be led by Brian Shea, President & Head Coach/Consultant at Personal Best Nutrition. For over 25 years, he has competed in all levels of endurance sports from 5K to Ultra-marathon to Ironman.

Brian has raced/won triathlons in the United States & abroad with multiple Ironman finishes including Ironman Hawaii with a 9:31 Ironman PR. He has also worked closely with World Champions including Leanda Cave, Jordan Rapp, Terenzo Bozzone, Julie Dibens & MANY others ranging from beginners to Olympians.

On the coaching side, Brian is a certified triathlon and running coach having formulated training and sports nutrition programs for athletes ranging from beginner to professional.


Do I need a wetsuit?
Temperatures will range from 62-68F, so most participants will opt for a wetsuit, depending on your individual tolerance for the cold. As your clinic date approaches, please contact Coach Brian to determine what will be the best/safest option.

I have never swam in the open-water, is this going to be too advanced for me? Absolutely NOT! This clinic is designed exactly for the beginner swimmer who has some level of comfort in the pool, but has little/no experience swimming in the open water. The open water component will include practice in the ocean or river, around buoys, but under the watchful eye of Coach Brian & a Certified Lifeguard.

*Please note, sessions will be held rain or shine & only cancelled in the event of lightning/thunder or rough conditions.
Schedule changes due to inclement weather will be moved to a later date.
