Q: Bonk Breaker is "Gluten-Free" but you use Oats?
A: Bonk Breaker products are made with 100% Gluten Free Oats. Gluten Free Oats are grown in fields and on farms which do not grow Gluten containing grains, and that's all we use! These fields are isolated and processed on farming equipment that handles Gluten Free grains only.

This is a issue that can be confusing as over 99% of oats grown are contaminated with Gluten and are NOT Gluten Free. Here is the reasoning behind the gluten contamination: The vast majority of Oats are grown in fields adjacent to or near wheat and barley fields. This turns into a cross germination and cross contamination issue when the wind blows. In addition, shared soil and processing on the same equipment as wheat and barley can also lead to cross contamination.

Q: Why Gluten-Free?
A: All Bonk Breaker energy bars are gluten-free. Gluten is a protein found in wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, malts and triticale. It is used as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent, often as "dextrin". At its most basic, a gluten-free diet is a diet which excludes foods containing gluten. A gluten-free diet is the only medically accepted treatment for celiac disease, the related condition dermatitis herpetiformis, and wheat allergy. Please consult your physician or nutritionist for a full and complete description of these conditions and how a gluten-free diet might impact you personally.
